Exercise: AI Fluency Self-Assessment
Time required: 5–10 minutes
Rate each statement below on a scale of 1 (Strongly Disagree) to 5 (Strongly Agree). Be honest — this is for you, not for a grade.
1.I have a clear understanding of what current AI tools can and cannot do well.
2.I can explain to a colleague, in plain language, why AI sometimes produces incorrect or made-up information.
3.Before starting a task with AI, I deliberately consider whether AI is the right tool and what role it should play.
4.I can identify tasks in my work that are well-suited to AI and tasks that are better done without it.
5.When I use AI, I consistently provide enough context and detail to get a strong result.
6.I know how to iterate on AI output — refining, redirecting, and building on results rather than just accepting or rejecting them.
7.I routinely check AI-generated content for factual accuracy before using it.
8.I can usually tell the difference between AI output that is genuinely insightful and output that merely sounds convincing.
9.I am confident I understand the ethical considerations involved in using AI for my work (data privacy, transparency, bias).
10.I have a consistent personal practice for reviewing and taking ownership of AI-assisted work before sharing it.
Which READY Stages Need the Most Attention?
